An Unprecedented Realization

Mom and Dad are undoubtedly the two most beautiful people in everyone’s life, without them our life is unimaginable. They work all their lives just to make our lives comfortable, they sacrifice their well-being just to make sure we are happy, they are always willing to make even the most unreasonable of our wishes come true. The sacrifices that they make, the hardships they endure, and sometimes the pain they have to go through are all for our fulfillment.

Recently, an incident happened with me and it left an indelible impression on my mind and made me realize how parents are always willing to go out of their comfort zone for their children. This incident happened at one of the Domino’s Pizza outlets. While I was standing outside, a middle aged simple looking man came and he asked in Marathi “what kind of pizza should he buy ?”  I realized he was coming to Domino’s for the very first time. I asked him “who was going to eat it?” He replied, his children asked him to bring pizza for them, and, there was this man visiting Domino’s for the first time, having no idea of what pizzas they offered, their prices, and stores’ complicated terminologies. Yet he didn’t hesitate a bit in asking me to suggest a pizza. He just said the pizza should be a little spicy. I said, “I will come inside to help you out in placing order”. And when I entered I saw his wife sitting there inside the outlet, that made me realize, that to buy just a pizza they both came which showed how much they cared for their children and how they came out of their comfort zone to cater to their children’s wish. For you or your parents, buying a pizza, going to Domino’s or Pizza Hut is nothing new, it’s just a cake walk.

But just imagine the courage they had to muster to come to Domino’s, a place which they had never visited before to buy a pizza which they themselves had never eaten in their lives. I took a menu card and explained the ingredients the various pizzas contained in Marathi and eventually the order got placed. When it came to paying the bill, that man called me “Tai” which in Marathi means Sister and handed me a 500 Rupee note to pay for the bill. That gesture really touched my heart, and expressed his gratitude for what I had done for him in the best way possible.

The incident described above can be considered as the epitome of the unconditional love parents have for us. We owe our parents a lot and we in no way can ever repay for what that have done for us, no matter how successful we become or how much money we earn. But, what we can do is give them the same affection and love which was bestowed upon us by them. They just want your attention and love, and, going out of your comfort zone metaphor described above is not just limited to this incident or not just limited to parents. In every walk of your life, whatever career you pursue, you need to get out of your comfort zone, need to break the barriers that hamper you and pursue your dreams and goals. Don’t follow the herd, make your own path, because when you tread on your own path, one door starts opening after another to lead you to your destination. And while moving towards your destination, don’t forget to enjoy the journey. And, the next time someone asks you, “Have you ever experienced the presence of God ?”,don’t say nobody has experienced it, because in the form of parents we experience it every-day.

  1. We heard the story of Lord Ganesha and Lord Karthikeya in the childhood but now when we have seen the sacrifices and unconditional love of our parents, it makes sense. Thank you for this awesome post.
